  1. Restoration Club

    September 26, 2020, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM @ Sunnycrest Manor

Sunnycrest Manor has an extremely unique hilltop prairie with very sensitive and has unique plants. These plants attract sometimes rare pollinators. We need your help removing undesired woody vegetation to help keep these prairies thriving and give native species a fighting chance! No experience necessary and all equipment provided! What to Wear: Wear long pants and sturdy, close-toed shoes for working on uneven terrain in heavily vegetated areas on restoration workdays. Volunteerism for All: The majority of volunteer events are setup with people of all ages in mind. We will tailor each work day to fit the needs and abilities of all present. With safety in mind, manual tools such as loppers and hand/bow saws are utilized. Interested? Meet us at the Sunnycrest Manor parking lot at 2375 Roosevelt St Dubuque Iowa 52001. We will meet at the main parking lot and walk together to the prairie. See you there!

  2. Composting with Worms

    September 26, 2020, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Swiss Valley Nature Preserve

Learn how you can compost year round inside your home and become a worm farmer. Participants will build their own worm bin to take home and make into a family project. Red Wigglers will be provided and instructions will be given to create a healthy habitat for the worms to eat your food scraps and reduce your carbon footprint. In order to maintain safe social distancing this program will be conducted outside. There will be an option where you can pick up supplies and we will provide you with resources to build your composting bin from home if you'd prefer. Funds generated from this event will go towards setting up a larger composting system at the Swiss Valley Nature Center to utilize as an educational component to show the public.
