Road Patrol

Operations

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division is a 24 hour 7 day a week operation. The road patrol is responsible for enforcing the Iowa Motor Vehicle Laws, responding to calls including:

  • Accidents
  • Assaults
  • Burglaries 
  • Civil issues
  • Fires
  • Thefts

Training

Deputies assigned to the Road Patrol are initially required to go through 3 1/2 months of supervised training. This is followed up by training that is required annually. Some Patrol Deputies have received special training to investigate Fires, Post Blast Investigations, Accidents, K-9 Handling, Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance and water rescue.

Shifts

A Captain overseas the Road Patrol Division of the Sheriff’s Office which consists of:

  • Shift 1: 1 Sergeant and five Deputies
  • Shift 2: 1 Sergeant and six Deputies
  • Shift 3: 1 Sergeant and five Deputies
